Hemorrhoids Surgery - Do You Need It?

Do you have hemorrhoids and were too embarrassed to talk about it with your doctor when you first suspected? Now you are in severe pain and the itching is driving you crazy. You can barely walk and you feel as if you are carrying around a little, or a lot, extra in the rear end department.

So, you finally decided to go see a doctor and the prognosis isn't good. You have a serious case of hemorrhoids with all kinds of complications and surgery may be your only viable option.

There are many different "surgical" options from a full hemorrhoidectomy to a rubber-band ligation. You can also opt for laser surgery. Your doctor will discuss with you the best option for your condition, but most of the time the surgery is typically performed as outpatient. Based on severity, and your other health conditions your doctor may opt to keep you overnight at the hospital.

But wait before having the surgery. You may still have a chance at shrinking the hemorrhoids down by diet and exercise, if you are lucky. You will want to consider all other options before having hemorrhoids surgery, especially the hemorrhoidectomy.

The hemorrhoidectomy is the most invasive hemorrhoids surgery and takes the longest to recover from. It is only for those people who have hemorrhoids that do not respond to other treatments. The long term side effects include incontinence and that is not something most people care to have in their repertoire of health issues.

So before you take action with an invasive hemorrhoid surgery, check out all the other options first. Whatever you end up needing, you can take the first step to preventing any other hemorrhoid flare ups by changing your diet and your daily habits. Don't read on the toilet, don't sit for too long periods of time, eat plenty of fiber providing fruits and vegetables, and drink plenty of water. You may be surprised at how your current hemorrhoids react and skip the surgery.

Hemorrhoids affect around 40-50% of the adult population, and as anyone who has ever had hemorrhoids would understand. When you've got them you want to cure them as fast as possible.
