External Hemorrhoids Explained

External hemorrhoids are painful and can cause burning, itching and swelling in the rectum area. Hemorrhoids are like varicose veins for your butt area and need to be carefully watched and taken care of as soon as you realize you have one.

The more mild grades of hemorrhoids are easily taken care of at home, but shouldn’t be taken lightly. Bleeding in the rectum area can be other, more serious conditions that are commonly thought to be hemorrhoids.

External hemorrhoids are thought to be aggravated or started by the same general things as internal hemorrhoids. Basically anything that can put pressure on the veins will cause them to swell giving you a case of hemorrhoids. Hypertension, pregnancy and obesity are common culprits in bringing on an attack of external hemorrhoids.

With external hemorrhoids, you are more likely to see and feel symptoms so treatment will start sooner. So, although external hemorrhoids can be just as dangerous as internal hemorrhoids, people generally get treatment sooner, forestalling the high grade attacks that need surgery.

By putting creams or using witch hazel pads, you can relieve the symptoms of mild hemorrhoids rather easily and with few or no side effects. Once the external hemorrhoids become worse than most home remedies can take care of you have to look at the side effects more closely.

At any level, you need to look closely at the medication or herbal supplement and make sure it will have no contradictions with your current medications or medical conditions. Some side effects of medications or creams can actually have severe consequences. It is one of the many reasons to see your doctor if you suspect you have external hemorrhoids. Although the pain and itching in a very personal area may be embarrassing to bring up, you need to make sure you aren’t experiencing something more serious and that the hemorrhoid treatment of your choice is appropriate with your medical needs.

Hemorrhoids affect around 40-50% of the adult population, and as anyone who has ever had hemorrhoids would understand. When you've got them you want to cure them as fast as possible.
